Description

Battlefield is a series of first-person shooter video games that started out on Microsoft Windows and OS X with its debut video game, Battlefield 1942, which was released in 2002. The series is developed by Swedish company EA Digital Illusions CE and is published by American company Electronic Arts. The series features a greater focus on large maps, teamwork and vehicle warfare than traditional first-person shooters. The PC games in the series are mainly focused on online multiplayer. The Battlefield series has served more than 50 million players worldwide as of 2012, across 11 games and 12 expansion packs released since its inception in 2007. The series has a recognizable 6-beat sting.

Battlefield 3's Campaign story is set in 2014 and covers events that occur over the span of nine months. Most of the story takes place in the Iran–Iraq region. Other locations include the Azerbaijani border; Paris, France; and New York City, New York. Most missions occur as flashbacks on part of the interrogation of Staff Sergeant Henry Blackburn, and do not occur in order of events.

Battlefield 4's single-player Campaign takes place in 2020, six years after the events of its predecessor. Tensions between Russia and the United States have been running at a record high, due to a conflict between the two countries that has been running for the last six years.[citation needed] On top of this, China is also on the brink of war, as Admiral Chang, the main antagonist, plans to overthrow China's current government. If he succeeds, Chang will have full support from the Russians, bringing China to the brink of war with the United States.
